Styal Desk — Bentley Home (Carlo Colombo)
Design & Concept
Designed in collaboration with Bentley Motors’ design team, the Styal Desk is part of Bentley Home’s 2021 collection. It reimagines the modern luxury desk with sculptural form, elegant craftsmanship, and luxury material combinations.
With an approximate length of 3 metres (≈ 296 cm), the design plays on grandeur in both scale and detail. A graceful succession of curves runs along its wooden frame, balancing aesthetic drama with functional refinement.
Materials & Finish Options
The external frame & desktop can be veneered in premium wood types: Warm Grey Fiddleback Sycamore, Smoked Liquidambar, or Burr Walnut (briar-root), finished in a glossy or brushed sheen. Alternatively, the top can be fully upholstered in leather.
There is a distinctive gun-metal grey insert running the entire length of the desktop — a visual “incision” that accentuates the sculptural silhouette and divides the desk into subtly separate visual zones.
The sideboard (storage/return unit) is elegantly positioned, often covered in matching leather, with top options including high quality marble such as Calacatta or Valentine Grey Marble.
Form & Key Features
Composed of four elements, separated by a slim metal profile. These subdivisions offer visual rhythm and modularity in finish options (i.e. one element might be leather, another veneer) without breaking the unity of the design.
Balanced proportions: the sideboard helps offset the long span of the desk, giving both functional storage and an anchor to the overall form. The curves at both ends of the desk are anticipated by the central design language, creating visual symmetry and flow.
Dimensions & Variants
Typical dimensions: ≈ 296 cm (W) × 120 cm (D) × 74 cm (H).
Customization is a major feature: clients can choose which finish on each component (frame, sections, sideboard), whether leather or veneer, choose the type of wood, option for marble top on the sideboard, and finishes like the Degradé lacquering technique.
Craftsmanship & Aesthetic Details
The 2021 Bentley Home collection introduced Degradé lacquering—a technique involving hand-application of varnish, airbrush shading, polishing, and multiple varnish coats — bringing gradient colour effects and tactile depth to the wood surfaces.
Leather options include high-quality upholstery, with precise workmanship. In Venetian product sheets, interiors of drawers or sideboard are lined with microfiber, doors might be covered in leather, offering a contrast between hard surfaces (wood, stone) and soft ones (leather).
Experience & Brand Positioning
The Styal Desk is a statement piece, designed to dominate an executive office or luxury home workspace. Its scale, materials, and finish combine to communicate prestige, attention to detail, and a high level of refinement.
It aligns with Bentley’s positioning: combining automotive-heritage design with craftsmanship, innovation (new finishes like marble powder fabric, degradé lacquer) and sustainable luxury.
