Tama Desk — Walter Knoll
Design & Inspiration
Designed by the Austrian studio EOOS, the Tama Desk is not just furniture — it’s sculpture. Its organic form, fluid lines, and interplay between horizontal and vertical surfaces reshape what a desk can be: a space not just for work, but for thought, inspiration, and creative leadership. Tama embodies a delicate balance of lightness and strength, simplicity and complexity, dynamism and calm — qualities that elevate it as a “think desk” rather than just a workspace.
Materials & Craftsmanship
The desk uses high-quality wood veneer, meticulously drawn over the tabletop, curved edges, and rounded surfaces via an innovative vacuum process. This seamless veneer application yields remarkably smooth, wrapped forms and surfaces without hard edges.
Structural elements include steel panel legs, powder-coated in a matte bronze finish, giving both visual warmth and enduring strength.
The lower top shelf and certain panels are finished in fine textured paint bronze, complementing the wood and steel tones.
The interior of the drawer(s), when present, is lined with soft leather (Congress leather), for a luxurious tactile element.
Functionality & Features
Hidden drawers and a pull-out container allow for private, organized storage. These open “almost without contact” — a light gesture along the body slides them open. One drawer contains a secret compartment (“private compartment” / “little treasure chest”) which can be optionally illuminated.
Electrical integration is thoughtfully designed: multiple plug sockets, hidden USB ports, cable ducts, and magnetic cable covers ensure that tech can be integrated cleanly.
Soft-closing drawers, hidden handles, and optional extras such as a keyless locking system (e.g. chip card) and lighting package add to both security and user experience.
Dimensions & Variants
The desk comes in a couple of standard sizes. One version measures approximately W 261.5 cm × D 213.5 cm × H 74/81 cm. A larger variant has width ~288.4 cm. Top thickness is about 28 mm, with rounded edges to soften form.
Experience & Positioning
The Tama Desk makes a strong statement. It is ideal for high-level executive offices, design studios, leadership suites, or anywhere the space itself should communicate culture, vision, and care. Its sculptural presence, premium materials, and crafted details reflect craftsmanship, sophistication, and discernment. It supports not just administrative tasks, but ideation, direction, and decision-making.
